Linklaters

Linklaters is a global law firm that advises the world’s leading companies, financial institutions and governments on their most challenging transactions and assignments. With offices in major business and financial centres, it delivers an outstanding service to its clients anywhere in the world.

Globally, we’re renowned for breaking new ground in high-growth markets, but in Asia this has translated into a series of ‘firsts’.  All in all, if you want to work on complex, demanding deals; if you want to blend your skills with lawyers from many different fields and jurisdictions; if you want the freedom to specialise in specific business sectors, on a broad global stage – this is where you need to be.

When clients appoint lawyers, they are buying knowledge and expertise; an apparently obvious statement that has serious implications for everyone who trains with Linklaters. When you qualify as a lawyer, this is merely the beginning of a journey rather than a destination. It’s a process of learning, development and growth that continues for as long as you work with us.

The firm

We build lasting relationships with our clients, and we are committed to supporting them at all times, as they adjust to changes in their markets and the regulatory landscape. The size and shape of our business is determined by our clients and the work we do for them.

We believe that the strength and depth of our practices, our client relationships, our sector approach, the quality of our people and our global platform give us significant competitive advantage.

Our work is divided into three broad divisions for management purposes: Corporate; Finance and Projects; and Commercial.  In practice, advising our clients usually involves more than one division.

There are over 2,200 lawyers at Linklaters, of whom around 480 are partners – with as many again employed in business support roles. We operate in 19 different countries with 26 offices.

Trainees

We recruit graduates mainly from those studying law.

The next step is the year-long Postgraduate Certificate in Law (PCLL) which all trainees have to complete before they begin their training contracts.  If you are studying overseas you will have to complete the Pre Course conversion exams before studying for the PCLL, if you have any questions on these courses please email asiagraduates@linklaters.com.

The training contract is a two-year programme specifically designed to provide you with experience across a range of practice areas. Under partner and associate supervision and guidance, you’ll get involved in a broad variety of client work, equipping you with the skills to become a confident commercial lawyer. During that time you will have the opportunity to take part in an international placement, either in London or our two offices in mainland China, which will furnish you with further global deal exposure. You’ll be able to meet new colleagues and share experiences, as well as gain fresh perspectives and benchmarks.

Our culture

We are a firm that achieves exceptional things for clients, whilst creating a supportive community in which individuals are encouraged to be themselves. Ask anyone from Linklaters what they most enjoy about the firm, and the answer is usually the same: “it’s the people”.

Training with Linklaters means working alongside some of the world’s best lawyers on some of the world’s most challenging deals. We expect a lot of our graduate trainees, but the rewards – personal and professional as well as financial – are very high indeed.
